What is an Intimacy Coordinator?

“An Intimacy Coordinator is a choreographer, an advocate for actors, and a liaison between actors and production for scenes that involve nudity/hyper exposed work, simulated sex acts, and intimate physical contact in tv or film.” (IDC). An IC functions in a similar way that a Stunt Coordinator would on a film/TV set. As the department head, they are in charge of working with the director and creative team to make sure that any stunts are choreographed to capture the best story, and to keep the perfomers safety at the highest priority. Intimacy professionals work under trauma-informed and consent-based practices, which puts the emotional safety and well being of the creative team at the forefront of the process.

Who am I as an Intimacy Coordinator?

I have and continue to train in Anti-Racism/EDI, trauma informed practices, advocating and allyship for transgender/ non-binary/ disabled artists, gender identity and sexual orientation, anti sexual harassment, conflict resolution, bystander intervention training, and is certified in Mental Health First Aid. I am also SAFD certified in Unarmed Combat and Rapier/Dagger. 

I use my experience as a competitive dancer, professional actor, and artistic producer to help effectively communicate the director’s vision not only to the performer, but between all departments.  I believe that authenticity and collaboration are the foundations of the best storytelling, and I strive to bring those qualities into every project I work on. 

I also run workshops for theatre, TV/Film production companies, educational institutions, and businesses across the country. These workshops are aimed at understanding how to work respectfully and creatively with one another through applications of consent, boundaries, and advocacy for a human-first approach.
